Behind the Headlines

Masks in schools, misleading history lesson and Colorado River woes

Play

Salt Lake City’s mayor pursues a mask order for schools to slow the spread of the highly contagious delta variant. History packets falsely asserting that “most slaves were generally treated kindly” in the United States get pulled from a Utah learning center. And a first-ever water shortage is declared for the Colorado River, casting doubt over planned water infrastructure projects.

At 9 a.m. on Friday, Salt Lake Tribune reporters Brian Maffly and Courtney Tanner, along with news columnist Robert Gehrke, join KCPW’s Roger McDonough to talk about the week’s top stories.

Every Friday at 9 a.m., stream “Behind the Headlines” at kcpw.org, or tune in to KCPW 88.3 FM or Utah Public Radio for the broadcast. Join the live conversation by calling (801) 355-TALK.
