The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour (Air date: Dec. 4, 2013) – Allan Nairn is an investigative journalist, human rights activist, who has reported on various conflicts overseas, including in El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, and Indonesia. In 1991, Nairn witnessed an Indonesian government crackdown on East Timorese protesters during which he, along with Amy Goodman of the program ‘Democracy Now!’, were both beaten and nearly killed by Indonesian soldiers. This year Nairn was asked to testify in a trial against former Guatemalan dictator Rios Montt. Since the 1980’s, Nairn has remained a vocal critic of U.S. foreign policy for backing repressive regimes. In his talk Nairn makes a case to stop what he calls U.S. sponsored terrorism in the 21st Century. This Hinckley Institute Radio Hour was recorded live with an audience of students, at the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah, on November 7th, 2013.
