On this episode of “In the Hive,” we take a look at the use of pesticides to kill mosquitoes in and around Salt Lake City.
This past week, the group Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment called for a two-year pause on pesticide-spraying to treat for the pesky pests – saying that the practice represents a broad threat to public health. A recent report by the organization highlights research documenting, among other things, negative impacts to childhood neurodevelopment from the use of certain pesticides – including those being used in our region. But the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District says the pesticides they use are approved by federal regulators and safe when used correctly. And they say that mosquitoes need to be controlled.
