Becker: We’ll be Skeptical, Vigilant on Pipeline

Salt Lake City and County leaders were taken by surprise when the federal government gave Chevron the green light to re-start its pipeline running through Salt Lake City, following two oil spills since last June. But after talking with Chevron and federal regulators, Mayors Ralph Becker and Peter Corroon gave their blessing for it to resume operations Tuesday morning.

A new report puts a dollar value on the factors that affect quality of life in Utah, and how they’ve changed over time. It’s called the Genuine Progress Indicator. University of Utah economics professor Gunseli Berik, co-author of the report, says 22 factors were taken into consideration to reach the findings.

Council Doesn’t Override Becker’s Veto of Parley’s Plan

In a display of support for Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker, the city council decided last night not to override his veto of the Parley’s Historic Nature Park management plan in a two-to-five vote. Two of the four council members who originally supported the plan voted against the override, including Stan Penfold.
