(KCPW News) Former Utah governor and possible presidential candidate Jon Huntsman confirmed Friday morning that he is Mormon, after previously saying his church membership is “tough to define.” In an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America, Huntsman said he doesn’t see his religion being a problem if he decides to run for president.
“I believe in God,” Huntsman said. “I am a good Christian. I am very proud of my Mormon heritage. I am Mormon. Today there are 13 million Mormons, it’s a very diverse and heterogeneous cross section of people, and I probably add to that diversity.”
Huntsman also told host George Stephanopoulos that he doesn’t regret going overseas to be U.S. Ambassador to China for the Obama Administration, something that could hurt his chances among fellow Republicans.
“I worked for the President of the United States,” Huntsman said. “The President asked me, the President of all the people. And during a time of war, during a time of economic difficulty for our country if I’m asked by my President to serve, I’ll stand up and do it.”
Huntsman said the only thing that would stop him from running is his wife Mary Kaye.
