(KCPW News) South Jordan is hiring. In a surprise announcement last night, the city’s Mayor, W. Kent Money, stepped down saying he is accepting a new position from his full time employer, the LDS Church, in New Zealand. City Manager, John Geilmann, says now all registered voters living in South Jordan are eligible to take his place.
“The council will determine how they will accept applications for persons who are interested in filling that vacancy,” says Geilmann. “They review the applications. They determine when and how they are going to interview potential candidates; it has to be done in an open and public meeting. Then they can deliberate, and choose a replacement.”
Mayor Money has not formally resigned from his post just yet. That is expected to take place in mid-December or early January. Geilmann says the council needs to work quickly to find a replacement because they are working on a limited time schedule.
“The Mayor asked that it be done at least by mid January because he is planning on being in New Zealand by the first of February,” Geilmann says.
Mayor Money is serving his third term and had two years left in office.
