(KCPW News) Utah’s 2012 gubernatorial race could soon get its first Democratic candidate. Peter Cooke, a retired army general and businessman, says he is seriously considering taking on the job.
“So far I am getting urged by both business and labor and by my good military friends,” says Cooke. So, I am out doing my due diligence to get the input of those that I respect and I will be making a decision very shortly.”
Cooke ran for Congress in 1978. After he was defeated he became the director of economic development for the state, something he says left a lasting impression on the value of jobs and education. He says his main goal as governor would be to bring the state together.
“I want to bring unity to the state that we haven’t had since the Olympics,” says Cooke. “Where we aren’t just out making these great threats about what we can do or we should do. But together as a team everyone is working together.”
Two other republicans have officially announced they are running for the seat against Governor Gary Herbert: Republican Representative Ken Sumsion and former state Representative Morgan Philpot.

Morgan will defend traditional family values, protect liberty and freedom, and stand in the way of an encroaching Federal government. Morgan Philpot is the only answer if you’re tired of the status quo.
