(KCPW News)  A third candidate has announced plans to challenge Governor Gary Herbert for his job this year. Yesterday, David Kirkham, founder of the Utah tea party, formally entered the race saying if elected his main focus would be getting more money for education.

“It would be very important for me to make sure that education funding makes it to the classroom, actually makes to the teachers, actually makes it to the principals, that’s really the basic unit of our education,” says Kirkham.  “I want to make sure that money doesn’t just end up in administration.”

Kirkham also adds his national and international business experience could help the state as it strives to attract new businesses.  Kirkham is a custom car builder.

Republican Representative Ken Sumsion, and former state lawmaker Republican Morgan Philpot have also announced their plans to run for Governor.
