Both Sides of the Aisle

Both Sides of the Aisle – Episode 124 (3/17/16)

For the week after the legislature Jim, Dan, and Natalie first discuss Obama’s Supreme Court nomination; the cancellation of the Salt Lake GOP presidential debate; and Chelsea Clinton’s Utah visit to campaign for her mom.  For the second segment the gang discusses the winners and losers of this year’s session.  Winners include Rocky Mountain Power and its shareholders; the state’s Federal lands lawsuit (which got an extra $14 million); Partisan state school board races; Water infrastructure funding (for building a future Lake Powell pipeline and Bear River diversion); Efforts to deal with homelessness; and “slightly” more education funding.  Losers include most poor Utahns with no health insurance; Medical marijuana; the bill to ban the death penalty; Scenic National Byways (get ready for more billboards); and Jim’s Indigenous Peoples Day proposal.
