Segment 1:

A pending decision by the Utah Supreme Court will decide whether a citizen initiative gets on the ballot for Utah voters this year. It’s called Utahns for Ethical Government. The UEG initiative creates an ethical code of conduct for Utah lawmakers, including an independent ethics commission, along with campaign finance limits. UEG was hoping to get on the ballot in 2010, but failed to gather enough signatures. After that, its organizers pressed on, hoping to get on the 2012 ballot. The Lt. Governor’s office, though, says UEG still failed to meet the requirements, but its backers aren’t taking that for an answer, charging that the state is doing everything it can to suppress the initiative.
