Health Department Still Notifying SSN Hacking Victims
The Utah Department of Health has sent letters to nearly everyone who had their social security number stolen by hackers earlier this month in a massive Medicaid breach. Spokesman Tom Hudachko says 275,000 of the 280,000 people with stolen social security numbers have been informed, and the department is now working to identify those who had less-sensitive information compromised.

Candidate Threatens Lawsuit Over Use of Electronic Voting at GOP Convention
The State Republican Party could have a lawsuit on their hands. Brian Jenkins, who is running against U.S. Congressman Jason Chaffetz, says he is upset about the possibility of electronic voting being used at the upcoming Republican state convention. Jenkins says the electronic method can be manipulated and he’s worried about the inability to check the votes after they are cast.
Cyberattack Leads Governor to Call for Audits
Governor Gary Herbert is calling for independent audits in response to last week’s data breach at the Utah Department of Technology Services, which compromised the personal information of up to 780,000 Utahns. Spokeswoman Ally Isom says the audits will look at the state’s security procedures and how this specific incident was handled.
Funding Miscalculation Leads to Resignation of Two State Education Employees
Two Utah State Office of Education employees have resigned after officials identified a miscalculation in next year’s education budget that resulted in a $25 million gap. State Superintendent Larry Shumway says the error goes back to November on a spreadsheet formula used to calculate Utah’s minimum school program funding. He says it was a simple mistake, but one that was questioned multiple times during the appropriations process.
