(KCPW News) The University of Utah has a big job to fill. This morning, the University of Washington’s Board of Regents offered U of U President Michael Young a job as their president. University of Utah Trustee Jim Wall spoke with KCPW before the announcement was made.
“Given all the intensity it would not surprise me to see Mike be chosen, he is such an excellent candidate,” he said Sunday. “We’ll be very sorry to lose him if that’s true.”
Wall says the Board of Trustees had known for a while that President Young was a prime candidate for the University of Washington position, but that really intensified earlier this month.
“Probably somewhere around the 11th or 12th, as a trustee, I became aware that there was a more intense interest in President Young and have been now aware since then that he was a very likely candidate,” said Wall.
Young has been president of the U of U since 2004. In a news release, the state board of regents said under his leadership, the university led the nation in creating new businesses. It also noted the University of Utah joined the Pac-12 under his watch, putting it in the same conference as Washington.
