Segment 1: Edward Abbey
Edward Abbey, the environmental crusader and godfather of monkeywrenchers, was not a Utahn by birth, but he spent much time in the state and set his most famous writings here. So, in many ways, it’s fitting that a major collection of his work is coming to the University of Utah. On Thursday, we’ll talk about Abbey’s love of the desert and his legacy for the modern environmental movement.
Guest:
- Ken Sanders, Ken Sanders Rare Books
- Dr. Gregory Thompson, Associate Dean for Special Collections, J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah
A public lecture and reception marking the opening of the rare book exhibition: Brave Cowboy: An Edward Abbey Retrospective is scheduled to open Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. at the J. Willard Marriott Library, Gould Auditorium on level 1, University of Utah.
Segment 2: FAX
Once a mainstay of the modern office, the fax machine has largely disappeared from the workplace. But hundreds of artists, scientists, filmmakers and writers are repackaging the fax machine as a tool to draw and create. Utah Museum of Contemporary Art brings this evolutionary exhibit to Utah.
Guest:
- Aaron Moulton, Senior Curator of Exhibitions, UMOCA
FAX opens Friday, March 2 at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, 20 S West Temple, Salt Lake City. FAX is a traveling exhibition curated by João Ribas, and co-organized by The Drawing Center, New York, and Independent Curators International (ICI), New York.
