(KCPW News) The 2012 legislative session is now over. And with no immigration battles or open records fight, it was certainly calmer than 2011. Still, Democratic lawmakers are fuming over a package of bills aimed at starting a fight with the federal government over public lands, and they’re not happy about a new abstinence-only plan for sex education in public schools.
Were were joined by Democratic Representative Brian King of Salt Lake City. (Note: We had also scheduled a guest from Republican Senate leadership to be on the program, but were unable to reach him the morning of the show.)
Then, Utah lawmakers overhauled teacher contracts and compensation this session, but unlike previous efforts, this time it was bipartisan and had teachers on board. We talked about that and other education reforms with State Superintendent Larry Shumway.
