(KCPW News) The state of Utah’s general fund is being eroded by tax exemptions and earmarks, hurting important needs like colleges and universities, the courts, water safety and environmental protection. That’s according to a new report issued by Voices for Utah Children, which is making new recommendations to the Utah Legislature to fix the problem. We were joined by Allison Rowland and Tracey Gruber to discuss the specifics and why this matters.
Then, Republican Salt Lake County Council candidate Melvin Nimer says public safety must come first in the county’s budget. The small business owner and accountant has been active with the Utah Log Cabin Republicans. Now, he’s facing a June primary election to be his party’s nominee.
