(KCPW News) Utah Governor Gary Herbert says the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act still must be repealed, following today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding most of the law. At his monthly news conference, he told reporters the law will increase the cost of health care and kill jobs. And he went a step further.
“Now I suggest all of us, you watch the stock market and see what happens today,” says Herbert. ” Talk to your chambers of commerce, talk to you business people and see if they say this is a great victory for the economy. You’ve got to factor that in as you weigh and consider, ‘is this the right approach?’ It may provide certainty – we have a lot of countries, communists, there’s a lot of certainty there in communism, but I’m not sure that’s what we want to live under.”
Herbert added “if you want to repeal ObamaCare, you need to repeal Obama,” but noted the state will abide by the law.
Utah Democratic Party Chairman Jim Dabakis says he’d like to know what Herbert’s plan is for health care reform.
“It’s easy for the governor to be up there pontificating. What exactly is the Herbert plan to cover thousands and thousands of Utah families? I’ll tell you what it is: it’s the plan of no, nothing,” he says.
Dabakis calls the ruling a wonderful moment for all Utahns and a good thing for the economy. Utah was one of several states that challenged the constitutionality of the law in court.
