From trial to execution, capital punishment costs an estimated $1.6 million per inmate, according to state officials. But some families of victims recently told Utah lawmakers that you can’t put a price tag on closure. On Monday, we’ll explore the social and financial costs associated with the death penalty and the scope of a new state study on the subject.
