Segment 1:
For the past decade, air quality alerts in Utah have mirrored a traffic light, with green meaning clean skies, yellow meaning voluntary no-burn days and red meaning mandatory no-burn days. This week, the state announced it’s replacing the traffic light model with the EPA’s six-color index. Air quality alerts will also recommend restricting burning wood or driving. On Wednesday, we’ll discuss the changes and the reservations that some have about the new system.
Guests:
- Bryce Bird, Director, Utah Division of Air Quality
- Dr. Brian Moench, Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment
Segment 2:
Calling the art of Carel Brest van Kempen detailed is an understatement. It takes him about an hour-and-a-half to paint a single square inch, and you half expect his meticulous portraits of birds, reptiles and insects to wriggle or fly off the canvas. On Wednesday, Brest van Kempen joins us to talk about his art and connection to wildlife.
