(KCPW News) Have a question about crime or an issue in your community? An officer from the Salt Lake City Police Department wants to chat with you. This Thursday the Salt Lake City Police Department will launch “Coffee with a Cop” a new community outreach program.  Veronica Montoia, Public Information Officer for the Department says this anyone who meets with an officer will receive a free cup of coffee.

“We’re going to have officers there to meet with the public,” Montoia said. “The public will  be invited to share any ideas that they have in regards to their community, maybe problems in their neighborhood.

This Thursday’s event will take place at Mestizo Coffee house at 641 W. North Temple from 7 to 9 a.m. but the locations will change monthly. Montoia says the new program is just one more way the department can help solve problems before they happen.

“We’re taking a proactive lead in resolving issues before they happen,” she said. ‘We want the community to know we feel this is important.”

“Coffee with a Cop” will be held the fourth Thursday of every month from 7-9 a.m.  February’s event will be held at The Rose coffee shop downtown.
