(KCPW News) The new S-Line Streetcar opens in Salt Lake City this weekend. Public celebrations and a food drive are planned to promote the newest addition to UTA’s growing light rail system.

Members of the media were taken for an afternoon stroll on the streetcar. KCPW’s Ryan Cunningham was on board.

UTA will be holding a grand opening celebration on Thursday near the new Fairmont stop, then a community celebration on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the 300 East and Fairmont stops. Anyone bringing a perishable food item on Saturday can ride the streetcar for free.

Regular service begins on Sunday, December 8.
