The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour (Air date: Jan. 1, 2014) – Transgender people in Utah regularly face discrimination and challenges in meeting their basic needs, such as finding housing, getting a job, receiving health care, or having their gender identity respected. But for transgender people who are also people of color, day-to-day life can become even more isolating. This intersection of gender or sexual identity and race or ethnic identity is the topic of this forum. Panelist Anthony Shirley teaches Navajo language and culture and works for the College of Nursing, and panelist Kai Medina Martinez is Director of the LGBT Resource Center at the University of Utah. This forum was moderated by Jennifer Napier-Pearce, Multimedia journalist for the Salt Lake Tribune, and recorded with an audience of students on October 8th, 2013.
