In the Hive

The role of urban trails in transportation and recreation along the Wasatch Front

Play

Across much of the Wasatch Front, there’s a system of urban trails – often paved, sometimes not, that weave through neighborhoods and industrial parks and run along riverbanks and through undeveloped terrain. Today on In the Hive we explore our region’s urban trails and hear about some of the theory behind why they were originally built, and why they’re now being expanded. Plus, a look at the history and long-term future of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.

List of Salt Lake City urban trails, extant and planned.

Guests:
John Knoblock, co-chairman of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail Committee
Tom Millar, transportation planner with Salt Lake City’s Division of Transportation
Tyler Murdock, project manager with Salt Lake City’s Parks and Public Lands Program
