The Presidency

Play

The Hinckley Institute Radio Hour — It has been one week since Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States. In that week, he has signed dozens of executive orders reversing major Trump administration policies on immigration, infrastructure, federal lands, the national coronavirus response and more. The newly formed Senate is now setting to work confirming Biden’s cabinet picks and his candidates to lead federal organizations.

This week’s panelists discuss these institutional powers of the president and how they have changed since the founding of the country. The panel includes Jim Curry, associate professor of political science at the University of Utah; Eric Hinderaker, distinguished professor of history at the University of Utah; Josh Ryan, associate professor of political science at Utah State University; and Cody Stephens, visiting assistant professor with the University of Utah’s history department. Moderating today’s discussion is Jennifer Napier-Pearce, former editor of The Salt Lake Tribune and Utah Governor Spencer Cox’s Director of Communications.

This forum was put on in partnership with the University of Utah’s Political Science Department.
