Governor’s New Economic Council Meets at Capitol

Utah Governor Gary Herbert says the focus of his new Economic Development Coordinating Council, which met for the first time this morning at the capitol, is to help create 100,000 jobs in the state within 1,000 days. State Feels Job Growth but No Change in Unemployment Rate

Utah has seen some marginal job growth over the past year, according to the latest employment summary. The Governor’s Office of Economic Development says a recovery is happening in key job sectors. But as KCPW’s Whittney Evans reports, a state economist says job growth is going to have to move much faster to put a dent in the unemployment rate, which continues to hover around seven-and-a-half percent.
