Legislation Makes Drowsy Driving a Crime

Drowsy driving could soon be a crime in Utah, not just a bad idea. Representative Lee Perry, a Utah Highway Patrol lieutenant, wants to add fatigue to the list of distractions a driver can be cited for by law enforcement. Perry recalled a tragedy where three people were killed by a young driver who fell asleep behind the wheel.

New Parole Violator Facility Could Help Offset Jail Overcrowding

Amendment to Gun Bill Squeaks Through House

A state lawmaker’s bill to eliminate gun-free zones around schools, daycares and universities was jammed this morning in the Utah House of Representatives. Under Democratic Representative Jen Seelig’s amendment, if a school goes into lockdown because someone is recklessly displaying a gun, that person would have to reimburse the school for that cost.

The Utah House of Representatives delivered good news today for unincorporated Salt Lake County residents who are sick of paying a fee for police services. Lawmakers approved a bill that would prevent the Unified Police District from imposing that fee.
