Utah Continues to Work Toward Cleaner Air; Public Asked to Participate

For decades several cities throughout Utah have struggled with bad air. But a few years ago, the federal government stepped in and told the state to clean it up, which is why the Utah Division of Air Quality has been working to develop a plan that will meet federal air standards. KCPW’s Jessica Gail spoke to the people in charge of helping Utah come into compliance, and reports on what changes the state will have to make.

OptumHealth to Manage County Mental Health Services Come July

Minnesota-based OptumHealth will take over the management of Salt Lake County’s publicly funded mental health services beginning July 1st. The for-profit company will contract with service providers, including the non-profit Valley Mental Health, which is the county’s current manager, to oversee the Medicaid program, county-funded services for the uninsured and federal mental health block grants. As KCPW’s Whittney Evans reports, officials say it should be a near-seamless transition.

Salt Lake City Council Considers Fees

There’s no question the economy is doing better for Utah cities and towns than it was at the height of the recession. But we’re still not out of the woods yet. Right now, the Salt Lake City Council is debating how to balance the capital city’s budget. Mayor Ralph Becker again has proposed no new property taxes, but it could mean property owners need to be on the lookout for new fees.
