Community Calendar

Our Community Calendar is a volunteer-run resource offered to all qualified nonprofits. Community Calendar events are highlighted live, on-air throughout the day on KCPW. Featured events are chosen at random. You will also find all current Community Calendar events listed here at kcpw.org.

The Community Calendar also has a physical home. Following the criteria listed below, mail or bring professional materials (no handwritten signs please) promoting your event to the KCPW studios at 210 East 400 South, Suite 10, Salt Lake City, UT 84111. We’ll happily hang them in our window for all Library Square traffic to see.

To submit an event to the Community Calendar, the event must meet the following criteria:

  • The event must take place in Utah.
  • The organization promoting the event  must be a qualified 501(c)(3) charity or political subdivision.
  • The event cannot promote a religious organization or individual.

If your event meets these criteria, click “Post Your Event” below. Include your contact information in case we have any questions. Otherwise, your event may not get published.

We encourage you to make the most of your post by adding a featured image and links to your organization.  Utilize the provided field boxes (i.e. location, ticket information) to display information as accurately and quickly as possible.

Please do not submit duplicate postings for the same event. If you are posting a class or workshop that requires registration, list just the first instance in the date and time, and include the details for subsequent classes in the description.

NOTE:  approved events are typically posted to the Community Calendar within seven days of your submission.

Please submit requests at least 14 days before your event – listings read on-air are chosen at random, the week of the event.

Ezra Bell, Night Crew, Tycoon Machete at Urban Lounge @ Urban Lounge
Jan 15 @ 7:00 pm – Jan 16 @ 1:00 am

Ezra Bell was founded in Portland in 2013 around the playfully literate and cheerfully plaintive songwriting of Benjamin Wuamett. Wuamett is backed by a gaggle of six to seven quite fit players who conjure up a festive dusky indie-folk-rock-R&B vibe that doesn’t smother out the melancholy.
No Depression proclaims, “Ezra Bell is a West Coast poet of disappearing into appetites. The virtues and vices described on this self-titled release are backed by a tantalizing singalong, early 20th century jazz ensemble vibe, sounding like the musical journaling of a swing musician crawling out of rehab. Wuamett’s lyrics describe a soul dissolved, but the feeling isn’t completely unpleasant.”
Paste Magazine says that “… the music is more like an action then something you should just sit idly by and describe. This album is running up hills of grass at age 9. It’s the feeling of jumping in the pool without testing it with your toes. It’s those late-night drunken stool-swaying sessions with a group of irreplaceable people in your life.”
Ezra Bell has released three EP’s: ‘Don’t All Look Up at Once,’ 2013; ‘We Came by Canoe,’ 2014; and ‘Farewell Griffin,’ 2016. A self-titled album came later in 2018. Then ‘This Way to Oblivion’ dropped like a prediction of a global pandemic in April of 2020. As such, the band’s national tour was halted, and members spread out around the country to be with their families; but only after recording the full-length album, Jorji, to be released on vinyl and streaming services in January 2022. Rather than wait for the pandemic end, Ezra Bell settled within the crown of mountains called Salt Lake City and is at the music making again with limited touring.

Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/events/486469292592731/
For more than fifty years, a woman by the name of Alberta Henry – devoted civil rights activist, educator, and community leader in Salt Lake City – carried the torch for hope, compassion, and change. She embedded herself in the public school system, served as longtime President of the NAACP, and led the charge for equality through her religious community.

Panelists:
France Davis, Pastor Emeritus of Calvary Baptist Church, civil rights and community leader.
Frances Battle, Principal of Nibley Park Elementary School
Shauna Graves-Robertson, Judge on the Salt Lake County Justice Court
Kathleen Christy, Retired Assistant Superintendent for Equity and Advocacy in the Salt Lake City School District
Jeanetta Williams, President of the NAACP Salt Lake Branch

This event is part of MLK Week (January 15 – 21, 2022).
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Week (MLK Week) is a platform to engage students, faculty, staff, trainees, and community members in critical conversations around contemporary Civil Rights issues and race in America. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of the “beloved community” as a nonviolent, just society where love and trust triumph over fear and hatred. In a year that has been filled with division, the 2022 MLK Week planning committee chose “Becoming the Beloved Community” as this year’s theme so we may explore ways to bridge the divide and work together to become the beloved community. Events and conversations throughout the week will honor Dr. King’s vision, offer direction, and challenge us to determine a better way forward.
