(KCPW News) A new analysis from the Utah Legislature estimates a bill aimed at catching undocumented immigrants would cost local cities and counties in Utah between $5 and $11 million per year. Representative Stephen Sandstrom’s Illegal Immigration Enforcement Act requires police officers to question the immigration status of any person they detain, if they’re suspicious that person is an illegal immigrant. It will be heard by a legislative committee later today. Utah’s capital city has been a vocal opponent of the bill from the start. KCPW’s Jeff Robinson spoke with Salt Lake City Councilman Carlton Christensen about his concerns.
