(KCPW News) With Easter right around the corner, several ski resorts are bracing for a busy weekend. Four of the state’s fourteen resorts will still be open. That’s fewer than usual due to Easter’s late date, but Jessica Kunzer with Ski Utah says overall, the state’s numbers have been surprisingly large.
“This has been a really great year for us so far. We anticipate that this season will probably be in our top three seasons as far as skier visits go,” she says.
Ski Utah began keeping track of skier visits statewide beginning in the mid-1950s.
Snowbird Marketing Director Dave Fields says several things contributed to this year’s great numbers.
“This year was a great combination of a recovering economy where the travelers were starting to feel more confident about booking vacation and spending money on vacation as well as great snow so that resulted in a nice turnaround,” he told KCPW.
The resort predicts it could have skiing into late June, like last year.
