Democratic Salt Lake County Mayor Candidate Ben McAdams got some help with fundraising Monday from former President Bill Clinton. While making a short stop in Salt Lake City with former President George W. Bush, Clinton met with McAdams and a small group of his supporters, bringing in $110,000 for the campaign.
“He had read how I have received support from Democrats and Republicans in my campaign and he said how important that was, to work with people from both sides of the aisle to craft solutions to the challenges we face. He encouraged me to continue to work in a bipartisan fashion, and asked my supporters to appreciate that,” he says.
McAdams says it was a small gathering of 15 invited business people, Democrats and Republicans at the Grand America Hotel.
The state lawmaker once worked for the Clinton Administration while attending the University of Utah. He says it was great to talk with the president and hear his perspective.
“Because I receive support from Democrats doesn’t mean I can’t be bipartisan. The facts are there. Most of the Republican mayors in Salt Lake County are supporting me, all of the Democratic mayors are supporting me, and I am honored to have support from whoever will give it,” he says.
McAdams’ opponent in the mayor’s race is Republican Mark Crockett, a former county councilman.
