(KCPW News) Local officials unveiled a new plan for homelessness in the greater Salt Lake Valley on Friday. The plan means that two previously-announced homeless resource centers won’t be built after all. KCPW’s Emily Means attended the press conference at the state capitol and filed this report.
Basics from Friday’s announcement
INITIALLY: four, new homeless shelters in SLC
NOW: two, new homeless shelters in SLC, and one new shelter outside of the city in Salt Lake County (TBD)
BEDS: originally four locations with 150 beds each, now three locations with 200 beds each
KEEPING: the 700 South site which is currently home to a Deseret Industries, and the High Street site near the Ballpark Stop on the Trax line
DROPPING: the Simpson Avenue site in Sugar House and the 100 South site downtown
CLOSING: the Road Home Shelter by June 30, 2019
