New data released by the U.S. Department of Education shows Utah’s high school graduation rate sits in the bottom half of the country. In 2011 the Beehive State’s graduation rate was 76 percent; lower than 31 other states. State Associate Superintendent Judy Park says more needs to be done to improve graduation rates, but it’s hard to do without funding.
A national survey shows Utah has the lowest number of underage drinkers in the country. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows just 14.3 percent of Utah teens surveyed reported using alcohol during the previous month, more than twelve percent below the national average.

A Utah lawmaker wants to free up dozens of liquor licenses using the state’s hotels. Republican Senator John Valentine is drafting a bill that would create a master license for hotels, which would free up licenses currently required to run the bars, restaurants and catering services inside hotels.
