Community Calendar

Our Community Calendar is a volunteer-run resource offered to all qualified nonprofits. Community Calendar events are highlighted live, on-air throughout the day on KCPW. Featured events are chosen at random. You will also find all current Community Calendar events listed here at kcpw.org.

The Community Calendar also has a physical home. Following the criteria listed below, mail or bring professional materials (no handwritten signs please) promoting your event to the KCPW studios at 210 East 400 South, Suite 10, Salt Lake City, UT 84111. We’ll happily hang them in our window for all Library Square traffic to see.

To submit an event to the Community Calendar, the event must meet the following criteria:

  • The event must take place in Utah.
  • The organization promoting the event  must be a qualified 501(c)(3) charity or political subdivision.
  • The event cannot promote a religious organization or individual.

If your event meets these criteria, click “Post Your Event” below. Include your contact information in case we have any questions. Otherwise, your event may not get published.

We encourage you to make the most of your post by adding a featured image and links to your organization.  Utilize the provided field boxes (i.e. location, ticket information) to display information as accurately and quickly as possible.

Please do not submit duplicate postings for the same event. If you are posting a class or workshop that requires registration, list just the first instance in the date and time, and include the details for subsequent classes in the description.

NOTE:  approved events are typically posted to the Community Calendar within seven days of your submission.

Please submit requests at least 14 days before your event – listings read on-air are chosen at random, the week of the event.

Companion Depth Workshop on Saturday, November 19th (5 CEUs)

On August 13th, 2019, a Diné woman began a 330-mile prayer run to bring a medicine bundle from Bears Ears National Monument to the Salt Lake City capitol for the United Nations Civil Society Conference, ending finally at the historic Warm Springs building int he heart of Salt Lake, and she didn’t stop there. Davina Smith is now running to become the first female Diné state representative, in the newly configured District 69, which covers about one-third of our state.

Through her personal stories, Davina will guide us through an evening of recognition of that undeniable draw to our deep purpose, and the journey in embracing the soulful cry for the world we wish to see manifest.

About Davina Smith:

Davina is currently running running for Utah House of Representatives in District 69, the first Diné (Navajo) woman to run for the Utah State House of Representatives. She is originally from Monument Valley, Utah and belongs to the Ta’chii’ nii (Red Running into the Water) clan and am born to the Ta’ baa ha’ (Edgewater) clan.

In this experiential journey, Davina Smith, a Diné woman born in Monument Valley and currently running to become the first female Diné representative in our state’s history, will guide us back into the origin stories of the land, of the indigenous communities who have lived here, into the rippling impacts of colonization, through to the new beginnings ahead.

Together, we will step through different perspectives, emotional healing, and resilience training as we gain deep understanding around our own personal and collective histories, and the opportunity to reconcile past trauma into current meaning on our own journeys.

Following the indigenous blanket experience, we will come together within a Talking Circle, a traditional indigenous ritual of teaching, learning, and healing in spirit.

Depth Workshop: Gratitude, Grief & Going Forth @ Full Circle Yoga

Depth Workshop: Gratitude, Grief & Going Forth @ Full Circle Yoga | | |

Facilitated by Erin Geesaman Rabke, Somatic Naturalist and Embodiment Mentor

5 CEUs included for Utah Mental Health Professionals

The day will include guided embodiment, writing practice, a communal ritual, an opportunity to connect in small groups, a community circle, and of course, there will be gorgeous poetry woven throughout.

I deeply believe in the power of an intentional community coming together to practice movement and stillness, quiet and connection, inviting our love and gratitude, inviting the difficult guest of grief, and, having been tenderized by those wise guests, freshly visioning how we might bring our unique gifts to co-create the more beautiful world we wish to see manifest. As Francis Weller says, “This is the solitary work that we cannot do alone.”

What I won’t do in this gathering is stand in front of you and talk and talk and feed you a bunch of information as if I’m the expert on what you need.

What I will do is invite your fully embodied presence, the wisdom and the concerns, the blessings and the aches, the gratitudes and burdens, the hopes, dreads, visions, creative inspirations, and unique gifts to come more clearly into awareness so they can offer their wise guidance. You’ll have an opportunity to share in a supportive community where it will all be met with respect, care and encouragement.

We’ll take enlivening, fresh perspectives on what’s unfolding in our lives by seeing with new eyes, and we’ll invite clarity to emerge to guide us as we return to our life, renewed, embodied, and inspired to begin again, going forth at least half a shade braver.

About the Instructor: I create wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery in my garage studio and fire my work in my outdoor propane gas kiln. I love making pottery bottles, honey pots, and ceramic jewelry. My pieces are often unusual, and some of my favorite glazes have a metallic finish, particularly on sculptural work. My aim is to use a different approach from the work of other potters, to use my overall skills as an artist who is also a painter to bring my own perspective to my sculptural and functional pieces. neenaplant.com

Learn the fundamentals of henna body art in this hands-on, beginner friendly workshop with Jawaher Designs! In this class you will first learn how to mix fresh henna to achieve the perfect natural orange to red brownish color. You will then learn the right way of holding the henna cones to achieve fine detail work as you pipe your designs. Once your materials are prepped, Jawaher will then teach you how to make simple, eye catching flower designs as you create beautiful artwork on your non-dominant hand/arm that will last a few days. Beginners welcome and all supplies provided.

We’re thrilled to present an introduction to this incredibly customizable art form as part of our New Americans Workshop Series in partnership with the International Rescue Committee, with funding from the Salt Lake Arts Council.

About the Instructor: My name is Jawaher, which means jewelry in Arabic, and I am a henna and jewelry artist located in Salt Lake County, Utah since 2012. I was born in Sudan and raised in Libya. As a child, my mother noticed my love for handcrafts and designs and allowed me to practice with her. Growing up in African and Middle Eastern cultures, I began to channel my creativity into henna, a 100% natural dye that is derived from plants before it is dried and sifted into a fine powder. I have been doing henna for 25 years.
