Segment 1:

The history of liquor in one of the nation’s driest states? You may think there wouldn’t be much of story to tell about alcohol in Utah, but not so. A new documentary takes us from pioneer breweries to Prohibition to today’s thriving brewpubs and wineries. On Wednesday, we’ll take a look at the Beehive State’s remarkable history of pouring a drink.

“Beehive Spirits” premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 8:30 p.m. on KUED Channel 7. Other viewing times include: Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 12:30 a.m.; Friday, Nov. 2 at 11 p.m. (KUED 7.2); Monday, Nov. 5 at 12:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. (KUED 7.2); and Friday, Nov. 9 at 9:30 p.m.

There’s also a free sneak preview on Monday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at Brewvies Cinema Pub, 677 S. 200 West, Salt Lake City.

From biotech to high-tech to discoveries in the lab, science and research is thriving in Utah, but sometimes those stories don’t make headlines. A news organization completely devoted to telling science stories just opened for business in Utah and KCPW is proud to partner with this project. On Wednesday, we talk with the founders of EXPLORE Utah Science about why the state needs a news outlet dedicated to homegrown science and innovation.
