Behind the Headlines: LDS to break from BSA, another term for Hatch?(7/31/15)

Play

Sen. Orrin Hatch has the money to run for an eighth term in office, but will he? Sen. Mike Lee rails against Obamacare and Planned Parenthood. A Tribune poll shows Salt Lake City voters are wary of a $150 million parks bond and the way former Police Chief Chris Burbank was removed. And the LDS Church considers breaking away from the Boy Scouts of America after the organization voted to allow gay troop leaders to serve in the ranks.

On Friday at 9 a.m., Tribune reporters Matt Canham, Thomas Burr, Christopher Smart and Peggy Fletcher Stack join Jennifer Napier-Pearce to talk about the week’s top news stories.

    Jennifer,
I listened to the show a couple of weeks ago and in the segment “The Most Under Reported News”, someone talked about the firing of the Parks Director, Todd Reese. Then someone else was mentioned who had also been unceremoniously fired and is now working for the District of Columbia. (Could you tell me his name?) Then there is Chris Burbank. I’m concerned about how the mayor’s administration fires these people with no notice and no challenge.
It’s a troubling pattern. It’s also why I did not vote for Mayor Becker.
