(KCPW News) Less than a month after taking office, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams laid out his plan for the future Tuesday. The Mayor addressed everything from education to spending during his first State of the County address. KCPW’s Jessica Gail reports on McAdams’ plan to move the County forward.
Millcreek Township will not become Salt Lake County’s 17th city, at least for now. Voters rejected a proposal to incorporate during Tuesday’s election, but as KCPW’s Jessica Gail reports, those in favor of the plan say they will try again.
Plans to improve 23-hundred East from I-80 to 39-hundred South are underway. The project’s design process has been in the works since the beginning of the year with Salt Lake County footing the bill. However, with a Millcreek incorporation vote on the ballot November 6, opponents of the proposed city say the project could leave Millcreek in a mountain of debt. Proponents disagree. Just under 32,000 people were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail in 2011. Republican candidate for County Mayor Mark Crockett says that’s too many, largely because it’s costing the county too much money: on average, $90 dollars a night for each inmate. Thrusday, he held a news conference talking about what changes he would make if elected, but as KCPW’s Jessica Gail reports, Sheriff Jim Winder says he doesn’t understand the system.
Mayors throughout the Salt Lake Valley are lending their support to Millcreek Township residents who want to incorporate this November. West Valley City Mayor Mike Winder, who is president of the Salt Lake Valley Conference of Mayors, says the group passed a resolution last week offering its support.

Supporters of incorporating Millcreek Township have released a new fiscal analysis they say more accurately reflects what the proposed city’s budget would look like.
